Tiwa’s ‘Goodluck Charm’

The video of the beautiful music piece ‘Eminado’ by our ‘African Barbie’, Tiwa Savage featuring Don Jazzy has finally been released! Hurray!! Now we have another glimpse of the magic touch of Don Jazzy, boss of Mavin Records.

This video is the definition of the word ‘classy’. The point of potential criticism, the old school style used in the video, is the point of its creative appraisal for me. Here’s the link to watch and download it http://tooxclusive.com/2013/11/04/videotiwa-savage-eminado-f-don-jazzy/

Yes You Can

A spoken word poetry by chinstell (Felix Aneta Chineye)

I never expected to be awoken.
The belly of his thoughts from whence I came forth caused me neither joy nor hurt
But it wasn’t until the beginning of the beginning that the beginning began
So, with his hands against which I offer no resistance,I was created, I was formed, I was awoken.
My name is earth.

With the passage of time the world has evolved.
But you, yes! Man! Whom he created in the sixth has failed to resolve to assume your role as man forgetting that yes you can subdue me.
Oh! This is pathetic to know that strategic plans of the evil him seems to thrive while man continues daily in strife.
Oh! How I ache! That man makes a routine of his mistakes! Yes yes I’ve been cursed for your sake! But my fullness is he’s.
He whom you’ve forsaken, with whom a relationship you keep faking, oblivious of the fact that he is the only one who can destroy, bake give, take, break and make.

Of the estimated 7 billion people that inhibit me, earth, only a miserable few have attmpted to change this pattern.
While others, I mean you, have shortchanged yourselves in the scheme of things by taking the back seat as spectators when you should be on the front stage as actors.
Your rehearsals are enough! When would you execute that plan you’ve had in mind before you could spell the word ‘rough’ ?
I know, I know, you’re waiting for sufficient funds and the right time.
But I beseech you, work while it is day because it would soon be night time.

I say this because I’m richer than you could ever think, gifted in areas you could never imagine and let this sink- I have ideas that are beyond amazing.
The source of my wealth? You of course! You who have buried your gifts, talents, values and calling like the slave in the scripture and have let the times make your life a caricature.

Dare to believe that you are different and dare to be different as you live.
For you might live a full life, reaching and even exceeding the estimated life expectancy of your race but what is fullness if you die living this world intact, the way you met it when you came in – shook no grounds, broke no boundaries.
Two is better than one but it first takes one to reach out to the other.
So here’s the impact of one –
Through one Adam did sin spread
Through one Noah was a race spared.
Through one Jesus are we all saved.
Through one you can there be a change.
Dare to believe that you are different and dare to be different as you live.
Dare to believe that you are differen and date to be different as you live.

Ponder and Pour Out > When Last Did You Read a Book?

When last did you read a book?
I don’t mean reading for a test or to pass an examination but reading for self-empowerment, reading for the acquisition of a new set of information or reading for leisure. You may think ‘but I’m reading this aren’t I?’ Yes you are! But let’s talk about books.

Have you read prose like books by Charles Dickens or anthologies? Have you read inspirational books by Ben Carson, Brian Tracy, John R. Noe, John C. Maxwell, etc? What of books on relationships and marriage like those by Joshua Harris? How about spirit building books like those of Rick Warren or even those by Nigerian writers?

Okay. Let’s do this; tell me a book you’ve read that really inspired you or changed your outlook on life. Let us know the lesson or timeless principles you learnt from it. In the meanwhile, here’s the question again. When last did you read a book?

Countless bodies are also trapped inside the mall as three floors of the building collapsed while trying to clear the terrorists.

Movie Review > The Colony

‘We only knew you were here because of the knocking’. Leland knew they were still there and his fear of death made him lock himself behind that giant metallic door that they had obviously tried hard to open in futility ‘…but I didn’t knock…’. They all froze. Where did that sound come fro- there it was again! A frightening loud sound that put their heart beats on full gear…

Approaching the direction of the sound, Briggs, Sam and Graydon turned off their lights. They saw splatters of blood everywhere. It was horrifying. Looking ahead, they saw skulls and bodies and skeletons hanging on the wall. And the sound? A man was using a small axe to chop a piece of meat. As he raised up the ‘meat’, it was revealed to be the hand of a human.

Graydon almost threw up at the sight and the sound emitted from his mouth made the man turn. As the man approached them, Sam fired a shot. The other ‘men’ who previously laid on the floor growled with their blood-stained teeth and charged towards them. Colony 5 had been invaded by cannibals!

Movie Title: The Colony

Running Time: 93 minutes
Limited Release Date (Canada): April 26th, 2013

42,000 were registered but only 12 were chosen. 12 has been chosen but only 1 would become champion. That ‘one’ would have to survive the wild of the Usaka forest, Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state, surpass his competitors, and find the 10th Symbol to become the Ultimate Man of GUS 10.

The prizes for this year’s season of Gulder Ultimate Search are #10 million and a Mitsubishi Pajero Jeep, courtesy of the official automobile partner of GUS, CFAO Motors. This year has recorded the first set of twins to qualify for the search. They are Mary and Martha Adeboye.

Chidi Mokeme has been announced host of the season and the highlights of the reality TV show would be aired from the 4th of October till the 31th of October, 2013.

This is one of my favorite reality TV shows… I hope that for the love of adventure, I’ll someday be there.

Ponder and Pour out > Do All Dreams Come True?

Have you ever had a frightful dream? One that involved a fire, an accident, a storm, loss of properties or a loss of the life of a dear one?

What about a beautiful dream? One in which you saw yourself in the spotlight, receiving all the attention- but our beautiful fairy tale dream gets interrupted by someone, something, somehow-.

Here’s the big question. Do all dreams come true? Do dreams represent a hidden truth? Do they serve as a warning for an impending event? In fact, why do we dream? What are the common dream symbols that have a general meaning? (some say seeing a snail in the dream represents sluggishness and slow progress)
Hey you! How much do you know about dreams?

The Heat in Kenya

In Kenya, an attack on a popular shopping mall, Westgate Shopping Center, has thrown the country into a state of Pandemonium. This attack started on Saturday the 21st of September, and before dawn today, gunshots from the attackers were still heard.

The 10-15 attackers were alleged to be militants from the Somali Al-Shabab movement, a fraction of the Al- Qaeda network. The group stated that the killings was nothing to be compared to what Muslims in Somalia experience from Kenyan invaders. They also accused the Kenyan government of continuing to massacre innocent Muslims in their country. They threatened to attack further if Nairobi did not pull it’s troops out of Somalia. To effect their attack, grenades and assault rifles were used.

At least 68 casualties have been recorded with over 170 people injured. Among the dead were the nephew of Kenya’s president and his fiancee, the popular Ghanian poet, Kofi Kwoonor, some French, Britons, Indians, Canadians and Chinese. Kenyans have appealed to the populace to donate blood to the injured and the US president has pledged their support for Kenya in rooting out the militants.

The Grave Cake!

Grave Cake

The Kenyan artist Karen Lucas has shocked the media world.
On her 30th birthday, she was dressed in mono-strap brown dress with two red horns. Her cake was one of a kind. It was the shape of a grave with a shovel and green bushes around it and a flower on the grave. Close to the ‘grave-cake’ was a sign that read ’30th 1983-2013 here lies Kaz’s Youth’

Many have given their opinion on this strange creativity by saying she’s a devil’s incarnate while others applauded her, saying she just buried her youth and was fully in the stage of adulthood.

Blank Canvass > What Is The Purpose Of life?

The search for the purpose of life puzzled many for thousand of years. The reason for this is because people start this search at the wrong point- themselves, ourselves. We ask self-centred questions like ‘what are my gifts, goals, ambition, dreams…’ But the purpose of life is far more that our personal choices and desires.

Our life’s true purpose can never be found by ‘searching inward’. Instead, focusing on
God and starting with Him reveals who we are and why we exist because we were made ‘by Him and for Him’ – Colossians 1:16. We didn’t create ourselves so we cannot tell ourselves what we were created for.
If an invention we had never seen was handed us, we wouldn’t know its purpose, neither would the invention be able to tell. Only the owner’s manual could reveal its purpose. Likewise, only our creator, God, can reveal the purpose for which we were created.

We have two options to discover our life’s purpose. The first is speculation. However, this is what most people choose so they come up with mere guesses on the reason for their being. It is like someone who is ignorant of the purpose of a phone but just guesses it is an ornament and hangs it on the wall. That ‘guess’ under-utilises the benefits of that invention and ultimately destroys its purpose.

The second option is revelation. The easiest way to find out the purpose of a thing is to ask the creator of it. Luckily, God has revealed the five purposes of our lives through the Bible. It explains why we are alive; the purpose of our existence. Since God’s the source of our lives and not just a part of it, to discover our purpose in life, we must ask Him

Ponder and Pour Out > What Drives Your Life?

Each life is driven by a force. Most are driven by fear, guilt, resentment and anger while some others are driven by materialism and the need for approval.

Some, fortunately or unfortunately, are driven by success and personal goals and pressure.

A change must be effected if that drive is anything close to negative.
So, here lies the question we all must answer sincerely; what drives your life?

Glo XFactor Winner

Obianuju Catherine Udeh, also known as DJ Switch, has been announced the winner of the 1st season of the Glo xFactor singing reality show, 2013.

The show was a very interesting one with talented singers like Ethel Eshun and Victoria (Vikky) Gomoti but DJ Switch stood out.
She had always wowed the judges, Oyenka Owenu, Mr Incredible (MI) and Reggie and had always elicited ovations from the audience and home-viewers alike. No doubt, the way she switches music styles by infusing rap, confirms her name, DJ Switch.

She got the whooping sum of #24 million naira and a recording contract with Sony Music while the 1st and 2nd runner ups, Eshun and Vickky, got #1 million naira each.

Personally, she was my favorite contestant. *smiles n winks*

Last Night With ASUU

Following several failed meetings between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to stop the on-going strike, Dr Namadi Sambo, Vice-president of Nigeria, took over the negotiations with the union last night.

The Federal Government’s delegation was led by the Supervising Minister of Education, Chief Nyesom, the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, with the vice chancellor of some universities.

The deliberation was described as fruitful and the president of ASUU stated that they would meet again with the Minister of Education within a week.

Now that our hopes are raised, I pray that we won’t be disappointed again. In the mean time youths, get busy.

O’levels leading to higher levels.

The results of the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO) has been released.

Breaking this news on Thursday, the 19th of September 2013, was the Registrar / Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Professor Promise Okpala, from Minna, Niger state.

The total number of the candidates who sat for the June/July 2013 NECO examination was disclosed to be 1,034,263. The council also recorded one hundred and twenty eight (128) blind candidates.

As opposed to the results of examinations conducted by the Council for the past 3 years, the results of this year are amazing. 70 percent of students had 5 credits and above, including Mathematics and English. It was also noted that the degree of malpractice had reduced to a considerable extent.

This is pretty good news and I say ‘congratulations’ to all Nigerian students on their success. But really, I can’t help but wonder about the cause of this beautiful story.

Could it be that majority of the students had changed their minds about dishonest ways of success and had channelled their intellectual power into studying instead of thinking of ways to smuggle extraneous materials into the halls? Or had they wisely invested in past examination question booklets instead of bribing examination officers?
Maybe the students had realised the need for a supernatural hand in their studies and had consequently turned to God in prayers. Whichever the case maybe, I hope that Nigerians would keep up with it.

Pounder and Pour Out > Boy-Girl Switch

We daily hear the complaints. ‘He doesn’t care enough…’ ‘He’s so insensitive’, ‘he’s not a bit close to being understanding’, ‘she’s too demanding’ ‘she doesn’t have time for me’, ‘she always wants me around…’ WAIT!
Humans have this inborn need to be loved, protected and cared for and we youths have found a way to get through that by giving our hearts to one special person who ‘sweeps me of my feet’ or made our ‘heart skipped a beat’ when we first saw them.

Too bad, our prince charming turned out to be a beast while our Cinderella faces hurdles in connecting her heart to ours. So, here’s our pounder and pour out section, where we get to make me a switch. *winks*
If you were a member of the opposite sex, how would you treat a member of your original sex based on your previous experiences?
*giggles and winks* ‘can’t wait to ‘hear’ from you.

New York Make Up

It must have been very shocking for our mother land when the man on the highest pedestal of government in the country was snubbed by his counterpart, President Barrack Obama of the United States of America during his visit to Africa, earlier this year in June.
Fortunately, the relationship between the two presidents is hoped to be restored as an invitation to New York has been presented from the American leader, Obama, to President Jonathan with the purpose of reviewing and restoring the diplomatic relations between them.
According to the Nigerian ambassador to the United states of America, Professor Adebowale Adefuye, the meeting in New York is scheduled for the 23rd or 24th of September, 2013.
Personally, I think that the invitation was a laudable one on the part of the U.S, attempting to revive the cordial relations between them. On the other hand, I dare to question why a complimentary visit was not paid the Giant of Africa upon a visit to the continent. Anyway, I hope this invitation would be honoured by our President to ensure the continuance of peace between the two nations.
What’s your take on this?

Tales of Woe

He finally succumbed to peer pressure
Like a fox, it cunningly stole his treasure
There was more to it, he love it
Being with the ‘saints’ became his delight and pleasure
Tick tick went the clock
Time at him began to mock
Twenty, fifty, then sixty began to knock
Alas! He was awoken!
Countless missed opportunities
Too late to mourn
Faded youthful abilities,
Slowly but steadily they did burn
No second chance
On his sixty first day, death blew it’s horn.

FG, iPhone 5s and ASUU strike

Yesterday, the 12th of September 2013, witnessed the heightened anger of the populace and undergraduates in particular across the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The reason for this was a report in a British newspaper, The Independent, by Simon Osborne (picture below)

Osborne stated that Ali Amjad, the Chief Executive Officer of Gold and Co, revealed that the Federal government of Nigeria made an order of 53 gold-plated iphone5s worth #682m to be customised with the Nigerian coat of arms in commemoration of her 53rd year independence celebration (picture above).
However, confusion set in when the federal government bluntly denied the allegation. The source of the anger of students is understandable.
Ever since the halt of academic activities following the ASUU strike, the federal government has continued with it’s tussle with the union, blaming their inability to meet up with the agreed payments of 2009 on their lack of funds.

Now, here’s the #682m iphone controversy.
Would the federal government pull out of this by suing the company to court? And how soon would the millions of students rendered idle by the ongoing strike return to their studies and move a level higher?
There’s no better way to find out than to find out. chinstellblog promises to keep you posted on this and many more updates. In the mean time, click on the comment button below to share your opinion on this issue

Reflections

Life is joy

Life is pain

Life is still the same as the days of Cain

Life is dull,

Full of colour

Life is fun,

Full of horror

But whether the lanes of pains,

Plantations of tears,

The high ways of laughter,

Or the streets of gladness,

Life is how you see it

Life is a mirror of your opinions

‘You can never run out of ideas. You only get tired of running’

Blank Canvass > You Are Not An Accident

. The birth of each existing life was not an accident. Parents might not have planned to have their children but they were not unplanned by God. Our births were expected by God, long before we were conceived. We were not a product of chance, fate, luck or coincidence but we are alive because God desired to create us.

According to Psalm 139:5 ‘You know me inside out, you know every bone in my body; you know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something’ so, precisely, God prescribed every single detail of our bodies. He deliberately chose our race, complexion, skin, hair and eye colour, height, nationality and every other feature. He uniquely designed our personality too. He determined the natural talents and gifts we would possess and the family we would be born into, the day of our birth, how long we’ll live on earth and the day of our death. In fact, we are casts for God’s perfect script.

The reason and motive for our creation is his love for us. He is a God of love and love is the core of His character. Ephesians 1:14 ‘long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love’. He had us in mind before He created the world. And we are the most valuable of all His creation. We would all be ‘accidents’ if there was no God. But there’s a God who created us for a beautiful purpose and that purpose would only be discovered if we make Him the reference point of our lives.
